Single-family attainable housing builder Clayton has held a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on Redbud Estates, a new neighbourhood in London, Kentucky, US.

The ceremony saw in attendance Kentucky’s governor Andy Beshear alongside other officials.

Four Clayton-owned home centres are spearheading the development, which features energy-efficient modern manufactured homes.

These home centres include Clayton Homes of London, Clayton Homes of Corbin, Oakwood Homes of London, and Freedom Homes of London.

Beshear said: “Today, I feel hopeful seeing the folks at Clayton teaming up with leaders from the city and state to provide more affordable, energy-efficient homes for families right here in London.”

Redbud Estates will comprise 51 properties, showcasing Clayton’s CrossMod homes.

These homes are constructed to ‘HUD Code’ standards with site-built features such as garages, permanent foundations, and more.

The off-site construction process is said to allow for efficient large-scale production, with final on-site finishes completed at the property.

Each home in Redbud Estates will be classed under Clayton’s eBuilt portfolio, adhering to the US Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home specifications.

The properties are designed to reduce annual energy costs for homeowners by up to 50%, ensuring a lower cost of ownership throughout the home’s lifespan.

Clayton CEO Kevin Clayton said: “This is such an important time for cities and counties everywhere to welcome attainable housing innovations for their residents. As cities like London continue to embrace CrossMod and modern manufactured homes, we can challenge outdated zoning codes and over time provide homeowners with wealth-building opportunities.

“This neighbourhood is a great example of how modern manufactured homes can help increase America’s housing supply while offering homeowners long-term monthly savings through energy efficiency.”
