has secured a turnkey contract to expand and refurbish Rimforsa school in Östergötland, Sweden.
The contract, valued at approximately Skr150m ($14.35m) and in partnering form, has been awarded by Kinda Municipality.
Rimforsa school, which serves children aged five to 12 years, includes several buildings dating back to the 1950s.
Some parts of the school will be demolished and rebuilt while others will be renovated.
NCC will also be responsible for the renovation of the school’s outdoor areas, enhancing its existing buildings and grounds and improving internal flows.
Kinda Municipality project manager Ida Härnström said: “We have now agreed on the design and costs and been granted a building permit to commence construction.

By GlobalData“The first step with NCC as the contractor will be to demolish the canteen, and then parts of the school will be relocated and one area will be closed off for the safety of students and staff.”
The expansion will feature a two-storey building with 21 classrooms along with additional areas to accommodate up to 483 students.
It will also include a cloakroom, recreation areas, and a kitchen with a canteen linking to the current school building.
The existing brick buildings will also be refurbished to house additional classrooms, administrative offices, student health services, and a library.
The design will be unified across the old and new sections of the property.
NCC Building Sweden Linköping project head Jonas Leijon said: “During the initial phase of the project, we have worked efficiently and purposefully to develop a product that meets the municipality’s requirements in terms of content, quality, aesthetics and, not least, budget targets.”
Construction is anticipated to begin in the second quarter (Q2) of this year, with completion expected in late 2026.
The order will be registered under NCC’s Building Sweden business segment in Q1 2024.
This development comes after NCC was commissioned to refurbish the Ågården neighbourhood in Nörrebro, Copenhagen, Denmark, last month.
The Skr225m project involves the renovation of 326 residential units within two large residential blocks.
