Nordic construction company has been awarded a turnkey contract to renovate eight residential blocks in the Sönderpark area of Ringsted, Denmark.

The contract, commissioned by Ringsted Almene Boligselskab and DAB, is worth approximately Skr500m ($46.77m).

It involves the refurbishment of 400 apartments across the eight blocks, encompassing the replacement of facades, roofs, balconies, windows, and other features.

Additionally, the buildings will be upgraded with new ventilation, water supply, and wastewater systems.

DAB project manager Julie Jürs said: “The refurbishment will give the district a real boost, changing the character and appearance of the buildings and raising the standard considerably.

“The replacement of the facade and the installation of new windows and doors will not only improve the aesthetics of the buildings but will also reduce their energy consumption.”

The project is scheduled to commence this month, with completion expected in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2027.

The order will be registered in NCC’s Building Nordics business area in Q2 2024.

NCC Building Nordics head Catarina Molén-Runnäs said: “Sönderpark was built in the early 1970s and is in extensive need of refurbishment, which we are now addressing. We will be particularly careful during demolition to ensure that the material can be reused, which is good from many perspectives.”

Specifically, DAB and Ringsted Almene Boligselskab plan to donate the facades and windows removed during the refurbishment to the Ukraine Foundation for reuse in rebuilding efforts in the country.

Earlier this year, NCC secured a turnkey contract to commence the next stage of modernisation for Hagalund Depot in Solna, just outside Stockholm, Sweden.
